Sheffield Twp- Harold Fay “Trouble” McCroskey, 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, September 30, 2016 surrounded by his family. Harold was born on March 6, 1929 in Wellford, West Virginia the son of George W. and Dessie (Bird) McCroskey. He married the love of his life Bessie W. Holbrook in Conneaut, Ohio on August 2, 1953. He was drafted into the United States Army, where he served honorably during the Korean Conflict with the 22nd Infantry Regiment and was a member of the Wolf Hound Division. Harold retired from Reliance Electric, where he was a truck driver. He was a faithful member of the Gageville United Methodist Church. Harold was a member of the Plymouth Grange, Reliance Retiree’s and in his younger years, was an Assistant Boy Scout Leader. Mr. McCroskey enjoyed going to the casinos, bowling, hunting, golfing, camping and playing in the Pinochle Club. Harold is survived by his children, Mike (Linda) McCroskey, Lynda (David) Beeman and Sandy McCroskey; grandchildren, Juli (Ryan) Hutchinson, Lisa (Alvin) McCroskey, Erin (Andy) Hays, John (Ashley) Beeman, Justin Beeman and Jeff (Melissa) Colucci; great-grandchildren, Patrick and Samantha, Isaiah, Lilly and Lenox, and Madison and Lexi, and his great- grandson, John, whom will arrive in January; and sister-in-law’s, Dorothy Holbrook and Margaret McCroskey. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Bessie W. (Holbrook) McCroskey in 2008; his parents; children, Gregory and Lori McCroskey; granddaughter, Emily; brothers, Paul, Charles, Billy, George and Jack; and sisters, Myrtle June Paxton, Roseanna Payne, Genevieve Hirsch and Geraldine Titus. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at the Gageville United Methodist Church, 4063 State Route 193, with Rev. David Miller and Pastor Terry Simpson, officiating. He will be laid to rest at Gageville Cemetery, where military honors will be performed by the American Legion Cowle Post #151. Calling hours will be observed Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 5 to 8 PM at the Thompson Smith Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut. Memorials in memory of Harold may be given to the Gageville United Methodist Church, PO BOX 439, Kingsville, Ohio 44048 or Tridia Hospice, 1933 OH-45, Austinburg, Ohio, 44010. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
