Lorraine Smith, 73, of Conneaut, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2025, at UPMC Hamot Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born June 6, 1952, in Erie, PA, the daughter of the late William C. and Doris E. (Langdon) Hengelbrok. Lorraine graduated from McDowell High School in Erie, PA Class of 1970, and went on to earn her bachelor's degree in education from Slippery Rock University, later completing her Master's degree at Edinboro University.

On June 11, 1987, Lorraine married the love of her life, Kyle B. Smith, Esq. A dedicated educator, she touched countless young lives during her 30-year career as an elementary school teacher with the Conneaut Area City Schools before her retirement.

Lorraine was a longtime member of the Ashtabula Yacht Club, where she served in various capacities over the years. She enjoyed boating, golfing, and spending time with friends and family. She loved to entertain. Besides Smith hot dogs she was proud of her homemade macaroni and potato salad. She was the consummate reader of British mysteries, loved PBS programming, and all British broadcast mysteries.

She is survived by her brothers, William Hengelbrok and Erik (MaryBeth) Hengelbrok, both of Erie; Stacy Hengelbrok, Bill Hengelbrok, Erika Hengelbrok (Ralph Byerly), Amy Savaiinaea (Israel), Kevin Hengelbrok (Leah), Otto Hengelbrok (Hannah) and Noel Hengelbrok (Michelle).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kyle, on November 28, 2024; her brother, Kurt Hengelbrok; sister-in-law, Darlene Hengelbrok; and her parents.

A gathering of family and friends will be held, Friday, October 17, 2025 from 4PM-7PM a the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut.
