Mark L. Kightlinger, lovingly known as "Kighty," 57, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at UH-Conneaut Medical Center.

He was born on June 30, 1968, in Conneaut, Ohio, the son of Leroy and Lyla (McCumber) Kightlinger. A lifelong resident of the area, Mark attended Conneaut High School.

Mark had a deep love for fishing and cherished his time on Lake Erie. He proudly carried on the family tradition as the owner and operator of Kightlinger Bait Shop for many years. It was not uncommon to find him out on the lake late into the night catching minnows, preparing for the next day's customers. Mark also had a passion for cooking and shared that gift with many, working as a cook at several local restaurants. He was no stranger to hard work, spending time in both tree service and construction, always willing to lend his strength and skill. Mark also owned and operated Kighty's Bar in the Conneaut Harbor.

He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his strong work ethic, and the many friendships he built throughout his life.

Mark is survived by his wife and soulmate of 17 years, Jean Hazeltine whom he shared many laughs, memories and years of love with; his father, Leroy Kightlinger; his siblings, Autumn Kightlinger of Ashtabula, Vicki Kightlinger of Conneaut; his stepchildren, Amanda Wheattall and Troy (Katie) Hazeltine; his mother-in-law, Sheila Dusold; his sister- and brother-in-law, Angela (Justin) Hazeltine; his best friend, Brian Kauppila; nephew, Nicholas Fletcher, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends he made over the years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lyla Kightlinger, in 2022, his grandparents and aunts.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Conneaut, Ohio 44030.
