Richard J. Schor Obituary
Richard J. Schor, 70, of Conneaut, a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, unwavering support, and a heart that gave endlessly to those around him.
He was born on July 20, 1955, to Joseph and Delores (Jerald) Schor in Conneaut. Richard was a lifetime Conneaut resident. He worked and retired from GE, where he had a thirty-three year career as a machinist. Richard really did keep that plant in motion; he could fix almost anything.
On August 31, 1974, he married the love of his life Debra Bailey. They cherished their fifty-one years of marriage together. Together they shared a remarkable and enduring love. Their life together was built on commitment, partnership, and unwavering support. Through every season of life, they stood by each other—facing challenges side by side and celebrating life's moments together. Their marriage was a true example of loyalty and love that lasted a lifetime.
He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his ability to make others laugh—especially his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. Even in his final days, he continued to share that gift, bringing lightness and laughter to those at his bedside.
He was a man of precision and routine, known for doing things "just right." Whether it was carefully measuring a project more than once or making sure a flashlight was held exactly the way he needed, these small but meaningful traits reflected the care and intention he brought into everything he did.
His strength was not loud, but steady and constant. He was a pillar to his family—someone who could always be counted on, no matter the time or circumstance. In his final months, that strength was especially evident as he faced his illness with determination, fighting not only for himself but for the people he loved.
He found joy in life's simple pleasures: riding his Harley, playing pool, fishing with his children and grandchildren, working on dirt bikes, and encouraging the creativity and ideas of those around him. More than anything, he valued time spent with family.
He was known for always showing up—whether it was sitting in the bleachers at a game, attending a recital, or answering a late-night call for help. He was a steady, reassuring presence, often described as a lighthouse—strong, dependable, and guiding those he loved through life's storms.
His kindness extended beyond grand gestures into everyday moments. He never ran errands without bringing back a small treat for his grandchildren—and even the family pets were never forgotten. During the holidays, his thoughtful and playful spirit shined, especially in the carefully wrapped gifts that took patience to open, often labeled from Rudolph or Mrs. Claus.
Above all, he had a nurturing heart and a deep desire to care for others. He gave freely of his time, his energy, and his love, never hesitating to help anyone in need.
Even in his final days, he chose to say "See you later" instead of goodbye—a reflection of the enduring love and connection he shared with those around him.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Debra (Bailey) Schor; children, Rick (Kelly) Schor, Stacey Schor, and Joseph (Marla) Schor; and grandchildren, Rylee, Cohen, Natalee, Skylar, Caden, and Connor.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
