Douglas R. Harper, 68, of Monroe Twp., died Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at UH- Geauga Medical Center.
Douglas was born on July 19, 1944 in Conneaut, the son of Donald C. and Mary Louise (Kemp) Harper. He graduated from the Edgewood High School Class of 1962 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He retired from Stone Container of Jefferson, Ohio in 2005.
He enjoyed fishing and boating and was a member of the Lake Erie Boat Club. Douglas took pride in his stamp collecting and greatly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
South Ridge Baptist Church was his church family for 44 years, during which he served as trustee and then as a faithful usher.
Mr. Harper is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Carole (Hicks) Harper of Monroe Twp.; daughter, Kristen (Doug) Adkins of Conneaut; sons, Michael (Amy) Harper of Charleston, WV and Steve (Brenda) Harper of Mentor; grandchildren, David, Alex and Bryce Adkins, Zach Harper, Abigail and Daniel Harper; and Kerrick Harper; brother, Dan Harper of North Kingsville; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the THOMPSON-SMITH-NESBITT FUNERAL HOME, 345 MAIN STREET, CONNEAUT, with Rev. Dr. Roger P. Hogle, of South Ridge Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 5, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM.
Should friends desire memorials in memory of Doug may be given the National Kidney Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
