CONNEAUT — Ruth E. Shackle, age 94, of Williams St., died Monday, March 25, 2013, at her home. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Jan. 13, 1919, she was the daughter of William and Helen (Osborne) Sherman. She moved to Conneaut at age 7. She graduated with honors from Conneaut High School in 1937 and married Herman Shackle in 1940. She gave piano lessons and was an organist at the former Lakeview United Methodist Church well into her 80s. She also worked at Floravue Nursery and was a senior aide for Head Start. She was an active member of Lakeview United Methodist Church and held many positions, including a member of the administrative board, the Women's Society and Ladies' Aide. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and was president at one time. Survivors include three daughters, Ann Lowery and Louise (Robert) Lebzelter, both of Conneaut and Carol (Thomas) Robertson of Geneva-on-the-Lake; and son, Robert of Conneaut. She had nine grandchildren, Bret (Lisa), Byron and Tyrone Robertson, Charles (Brenda), Barrett (Sherry) and Jennifer (Theodore Burdette) Lowery, Kristina (David) Rackham, Derek (Jessica) and Megan Lebzelter; 21 great-grandchildren, Ashlee (Jon) Hein, Paige, Cheina, Regina and Michael Robertson, Cassandra, Michael, Nicholas, Evan (Amanda), Katherine and Clarissa Lowery, Jonathan, Tabitha, Connor and Shane Burdette, Elizabeth Lowery-Burdette, David James and Zachary Rackham and Henry, Marcus and Benjamin Lebzelter; and two great-great-grandchildren, Morgyn Lowery and Eve Hein. She was also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman in 1984; a child at birth, Anna Ruth; a brother in childhood, Tommy, another brother, William Sherman; and a sister, Marion Miller; as well as her parents. She enjoyed reading, music, puzzles, gardening, cooking and a cup of tea. She always offered visitors a cup of tea. Service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, at New Leaf United Methodist Church, 283 Buffalo St., with the Rev. Jan Walsh officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Calling Hours are Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at THOMPSON-SMITH-NESBITT FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut. There will also be a Calling Hour at 10 a.m., Friday, at the Church, prior to the Service. Contributions in Ruth's name may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve or the New Leaf United Methodist Church building fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
