Obituary of William A. McDonald

William "Bill" McDonald,89, of Conneaut, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at University Hospital, Cleveland. Bill was born on August 29, 1927 in Youngstown the son of John and Eva (nee Perkins) McDonald. He served honorably during WW II in the United States Navy aboard the USS Lake Champlain CV-39 and the USS Fargo. After being honorably discharged he married the former Doris Meinke on January 21, 1956 in Conneaut. Mr. McDonald was a member of the American Legion Cowle Post#151 and former Lakeview United Methodist Church. He was also a former member of the Lake Erie Boat Club. Bill enjoyed boating, traveling and camping with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Doris McDonald; daughter, Kelly McDonald; and a sister, Shirley Galus. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Joe, Cliff and Milton Amon. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the Thompson Smith Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut with Rev. Jan Walsh of New Leaf United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery, where the American Legion Cowle Post #151 will salute their departed comrade. Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 A.M. until time of services at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Conneaut F.O.P.
