Obituary of Byron E. Oakes

Conneaut- Byron E. Oakes, 62, of Conneaut passed away peacefully in his sleep in Saturday, March 4, 2017. He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania the son of the Rev. Byron R. and Marie L. (nee Stancliff) Oakes. Byron graduated from Conneaut Valley High School in Conneautville, Class of 1972. He married the former Susan Civitello on January 4, 1980 in Conneaut. Byron resided in Conneaut the past eight years, and previously resided in Conneautville. Mr. Oakes retired from Northwestern Elementary in Albion, where he was the janitor. He also worked for the Conneaut Telephone Company. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Cavs, Carolina Panthers and Dale Earnhardt. Byron loved sitting on his front porch, spending time with his family and his dogs. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Susan Oakes; sons, Jason Oakes, David (Diane) Gooding; daughter, Melissa (Greg) Bort; granddaughters, Hailey and Abby Gooding and Michaela and Travis Bort; sisters, Lois Brutto, Janet Dobeck, Joyce Loutzenhier and Carol (Dean) Jenkins; and a sister-in-law, Elaine McMillen. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald "Mic" McMillen; and a nephew, Robert Curtis. In keeping with his wishes, no services will be observed.
