Monroe Township- Lois Etta Murtha, 88, longtime resident of Monroe, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 29, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Lois was born on June 16, 1931 in Hopewell Center, NY, the daughter of Samuel and Ethel (Booth) Myers. She graduated from Peabody High School in Pittsburgh in 1948. She married Louis, her husband of 62 years, on June 30, 1951.

Lois served as Monroe Township Clerk for 16 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church since 1957, and was very active in their Women’s Society. Lois was also a 50 year member of the Marina Rebekah Lodge, a member of the Jolly Sisters, and was a Girl Scout leader at St. Mary’s Catholic Church from 1961-1969. Lois was very active and generous with her time. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed having her house filled with family.

Lois is survived by her children, Louis Jr. (Clarissa), Donald (Mary), and Kathleen Sexton, all of Monroe, Beverly (James) Merlene of Conneaut; son-in-law William (Joanne) Biedrycki of Monroe; grandchildren Lisa (Chico) Murtha, Jill Nottingham, John Thomas (Samantha) Murtha, Lee (Rachel) Murtha, Joseph (Megan) Biedrycki, Sonya (Hargis) Taylor, Corrie (Ryan) O’Donnell, Katie (Nate) Stansberry, Mia Sexton, Justine (Tim) Sexton, Tabitha (Lee) Sexton, Kristen Fisher, Jessica (Eric) Guilliod, Hanna Merlene, and  Joseph Merlene; 20 great-grandchildren, Airman First Class Tyler (Cody) Moore, Patience, Cheyanne, Anna, Krissa, Paislee, Taylor, Jaime, Elaine, Hunter, Jack, Charlotte, Grace, Mae, Dylan, Maddox, Meira, Noah, Lila, Olivia; her sister Betty Shean of Monroe;  sister-in-law Roma Myers of Kentucky; many wonderful brother and sister-in-laws; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Albert Booth and George Myers; beloved husband Louis A. Murtha, Sr.; daughter, Cheryl Elaine Murtha Biedrycki; grandsons William Biedryck, Jr. and Donald John Murtha, Jr.

Calling hours will be at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home,345 Main St., Conneaut on, Thursday, August 1 from 5-8PM.  Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 2 at 11:00 am, with burial to follow at Kelloggsville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Township Fire Hall, C/O Shirley Harco, 5690 Hatches Corner Rd., Conneaut or the Monroe United Methodist Church, 4302 Center Rd., Conneaut or a charity of choice.
