Obituary of Shirley Rae Morrison

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirley Rae (Weaver) Morrison, 92, was born to Earl Raymond Weaver and Edna Esther (Paulson) Weaver on August 08, 1927, and passed away at Ashtabula County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on May 04,2020 . She was a member of New Leaf Methodist Church, where she once taught vacation bible school. As a young girl she was a dancer with Olga Seline Dance Studio, and as a teenager, sang with many big bands in the area. She met the love of her life, Gordon George Morrison, when she was 12 and he was 13, and he would often make the 16-mile trip from Pierpont to Conneaut on his bike to see her. After they both skipped school on Friday, November 13th, 1944 to marry, she always said that Friday the 13th was lucky for her! They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2014. She graduated from Conneaut High School in 1945, and went to work as secretary for the Nickle Plate Railroad Company. Shirley also worked in the jewelry department of Fisher Big Wheel Department Store at one time. In later years, she worked as secretary for Mosser Construction Company, where her husband was a construction superintendent. Shirley loved to read, work word puzzles, and in earlier years, boating with family and friends on Lake Erie. She and her husband loved to travel, and enjoyed decades of annual extended family trips to Florida and the Florida Keys with their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Fun too, were USS New Jersey reunions, family trips to Las Vegas, and a trip to Hawaii with their daughter and son-in-law, Teri & Jim. The highlight of this past Christmas season was when (great granddaughter and husband) Hannah and Johnni took their new baby to see her great great grandmother. Shirley was so thrilled and excited to meet and hold little Cami, and often talked about her! She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, their prematurely stillborn son, grandson John David Grantz, son-in-law Jamie Nieminen, and sister Judith Miller. She is survived by children, David Morrison (her care giver) and Jannette Morrison Nieminen of Conneaut, OH, and Teri (James) Grantz of New Springfield, OH; grandchildren, James (Shannon) Grantz of North Lima, OH, and Jacquelyn (Jefferson) Hostetter of Poland, OH; great grandchildren, Andrew (Sarah) Grantz of Laguna Beach, CA, Alexander (Jacquelyn Osti) Grantz of Los Angeles CA, Hannah (Johnni) Grenaa of Orlando, FL, and J. Austin (Emilly) Hostetter of Boardman, OH, J. Tristan Hostetter of Boardman, OH, J. Dalton Hostetter of Poland, OH; and great great granddaughter Camille Grenaa of Orlando, FL. Due to the current situation with the COVID-19 (Corona Virus) pandemic, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made, in Shirley's name, to Conneaut Food Pantry, 327 Mill St, Conneaut, OH 44030. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut. Visit www.thompsonsmithnesbitt.com to leave online condolences.
