Monroe Township- William J. Powell, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2020 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. He was born on December 24, 1933 in Decatur, Tennessee the son of Richard A. and Nora M. (Hale) Powell. Bill moved to Ohio in 1951 and began working for the Ford Motor Company and in 1952 began his career and love as an engineer on the railroad working for the Nickle Plate, Norfolk & Western and retiring from Norfolk Southern in 1996. He attended the First Baptist Church in Conneaut and was a member of the Conneaut Moose Lodge #472, Conneaut Eagles Lodge #408, social member of the American Legion Cowle Post #151 and a proud union member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Local #043. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed gardening and watching the wildlife on his property. Bill also loved to watch the Cleveland Indians. He is survived by his children, Kenneth (Ruth) Powell, Kevin (Shari) Powell, Donna (Dale Havran) Powell and Brian (Michele) Powell; brother, Roy Powell; sisters, Ann Pollarine, Jean Bandy, and Marty Miller; grandchildren, Bill and Becke Powell, Joshua (Amanda) Powell and Nathan Powell, Sean and Andrea Hanna, and Nick and Brandon Powell; great-grandchildren, Max Powell, Sarah Wu, Adam and Tyler Bissett, Blake, Kaleb and Addison Powell, Madison and Cason Powell; and great-great-grandchildren, Landyn and Lucas Wu and Sawyer Anne Powell. William was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife of 65 years, Nettie Powell; son, William Roger Powell; brother, Harold Powell; sisters, Mildred Sharten, Lorene Litwinick, Helen Stallard, and Fran Oldenburgh and Mary Harrison and two grandsons, Ryan Powell (son of Kevin) and Kenneth Wayne Powell (son of Roger). Memorials in memory of William may be made to the Conneaut Moose Lodge #472, 280 Park Ave., Conneaut, Ohio, 44030. A calling hour will be held Saturday May 23, 2020 from 10AM until the time of services at 11:00AM at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be streamed live via FaceBook. Burial will follow at Kelloggsville Cemetery. Limited seating will be available, masks not required/nor provided.
