Obituary of Kathleen Lucille Sanford

Conneaut- Kathleen L. Sanford, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 16, 1936 in Conneaut the daughter of Edward and Ruth (O'Donnell) Remmel. Kathleen graduated from Conneaut High School Class of 1954. Her love for animals led her to a career as a veterinary technician with Dr. Drose's office. In addition, she worked for many years as a manager with Lawson's. Kathleen and her husband founded the Conneaut Cougar Wrestling Club, where she assisted in many ways, from bookkeeping to traveling to the many wrestling meets. Her love for children continued by fostering children, hosting children's summer camps and simply by helping a child in need. Her heart was proud of her family, she loved hosting family get togethers and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. Kathleen is survived by her children, Charles "Chuck" Sanford, Jr. of LaPlace, LA, Peggy Bish of Leesburg, GA, Stephen Sanford of Conneaut, Karen (Tom) Mick of Conneaut, Patrick Sanford, Sr., of Conneaut, Mike Sanford of Conneaut and Michael Sanford of Conneaut; brother, Tom (Jan) Remmel of Bellevue; foster son Ed Hughlett; several nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Andrew and Jessica Sanford, Cortney (Bobby) Walker, Dana (Michael) Smith, Luis and Angie Bish, BJ (Stephanie) Bish, Nicole Sanford, Sarah (Zach) Denzler, Katie Sanford, Corey Pearson, Kelly (Todd) Wolf, Elizabeth (Bryan) Scalise, Patrick Sanford, Jr., Madison Gildersleeve, Jordyn, Christopher and Shawn Sanford and Tatum Sanford; great-grandchildren, Dylan and Brayden Smith, Liam Walker, Riley Bish, Regan Shepard, William and Beau Bish, Alayna and Gavin Denzler, Grayson Oxendine, Mya Morrison, David and Hannah Stills, Brittany McMullan, Corey and Kyle Pearson and Amelia Scalise; and her great-great-grandson, Joshua McMullan. She was preceded in death by her parents Edward Remmel and Ruth Potter; husband, Charles Sanford, Sr.; brothers, Robert and Bill Remmel and Ron Potter; grandson, Patrick Bish; granddaughter, Dawn Sanford; great-grandson Thomas DeMarco; great-granddaughter, Stella Scalise; and her foster children, Lee "Huggie" Hughlett and Mary "Butchie" Brockway. The family wishes to recognize the help and support they have received, including Khris, Crystal, Nikki, Kassidy, Hospice of the Western Reserve, Lake Pointe Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Conneaut Fire Station One, and the UH Conneaut Medical Center Staff A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held from 3PM-7PM at the family home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be given to the Conneaut SPARC, 230 Gateway Ave., Suite B, Conneaut or the Conneaut Port Authority, 929 Broad St., Conneaut for a memory bench.
