Obituary of River William Stone
Please share a memory of River to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
River William Stone, 11 months, became an angel on Monday, August 30, 2021, at UPMC- Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
He was born September 8, 2020, at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was the loving baby son of Patrick and Tasha (Gehring) Stone.
River loved to smile and laugh and always made those around him giggle with his antics. River may have been the world's biggest Curious George fan. He smiled and danced to the theme song every time it came on. He was his family's tiny jokester, water baby, and their little foodie.
He knew when he was doing something that he wasn't supposed to.... Which was often. He would look at you with the devilish twinkle in his eye, daring you to make a move. He was THE BABY, and he knew it and took full advantage of this. He is loved beyond measure. His family looks forward to the day that they can hold him in their arms again.
River is survived by his parents, Patrick and Tasha Stone; siblings, Hunter and Kaylee; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Stone; maternal grandparents, Kathy and Papa Jim Kennedy; aunts, Kelly Stone and her husband Bruce Singer and Sharon Stone; uncles, Michael Stone and Jason Gehring; his God father, Victor Assad; and cousins, Roan, Laird and Quinn Stone, Avrianna Gehring, Joshua, Stef and Nick Singer
He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Joseph Stone; and a cousin, Colin Stone
In death, River has also become a hero. He made a far greater contribution to this world than most of us could ever hope to ourselves. River proved that the shortest of lives can also be the most meaningful ones.
As an organ donor, River saved three lives. His heart went to a four-month-old, his liver went to a two-year-old, and kidneys to a 45-year-old.
There will never be a day, an hour, a minute or even a second that we won't miss our sweet baby River. We find comfort and strength in knowing that he lives on in others.
It would mean so much to us to be able to remember him as a boy who, in addition to saving lives himself, also inspired others to do the same.
The family encourages everyone to follow River's lead, and make the pledge for life, by registering as a donor at www.RegisterMe.org/River. In remembrance of River's life, donations can also be made to Center for Organ Recovery, "CORE," 204 Sigma Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15238 or the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation, 4401 Penn Ave., Pittsburg, PA, 15224 or www.givetochildrens.org.
Until then, we are so proud of our hero, River William Stone.
Private family services will be observed.
