Bill Dietz, It's nice to see a familiar name. I remember Russ from Amboy but lost track of him after we headed to Rowe. Maybe I would have enjoyed history more if he were my teacher.

Russ and I thought Social Studies , he Geography & I American Govt. next to each other for many years. He and I would converse each morning about what was on our minds. I always considered him a friend and a very dedicated teacher who took a close interest in his students. Was saddened to learn after my retirement that he had health problems. He was a true gentleman and a credit to the teaching profession.

I'm deeply sorry to hear of Russell's passing; as young boys we were very close and always friends. However, as we went our separate ways with careers and family interest we lost touch with each other. We attended Amboy school together, camped out under their apricot tree many times and enjoyed cool-aid and cookies as our favorite snack.
I'm sure Russ is with Jesus meeting with his loved ones who preceded him. The community and world has lost a great believer and friend.
Respectfully,
William Dietz

Mr. Hazeltine was one of my favorite teachers in high school. I liked him so well that, in a later grade, I retook his geography class for the full year even though it wasn't required and I had already taken the half year required course. Even after he was gone from school, if ever I would see Miss Peppard, I was always asking how he was doing and how she was doing. My condolences to all his family. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a great person :)

To our extended family, (The Ballards and Parents)
The blessing that our Lord and Savior has given to Russ and to you his family is that there is no more pain. No, more suffering. For Russ is now with our eternal father.
Just think now he's in heaven driving on the streets of gold. Probably, wandering where my Aunt Frances got her drivers license. (California) lol.
God be with you always,
Love ,
Ty, Kathy and Haylee

Mr. Hazeltine has run through my thoughts quite often since he was my American History teacher at Rowe in the mid eighties. He brought history to life for me, starting a deep interest for Civil War history at the time. His passion and excitement was apparent, and although not appreciated by all jr. high kids at the time, you knew he cared about you. I'm pleased to read that someday we will meet again on the other side. - Noelle (Fields) Lydic
