Monroe Township- Walter E. Hannold, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on April 18, 1933, in Conneaut, Ohio the son of Myron and Gladys (Disbrow) Hannold. Walter served his country honorably in United States Navy. After serving his country, he married the love of his life, Doris E. Fisher on August 31, 1955. Walt was a long-time employee of Elkem, where he was a foreman and operated, at the time, the world’s largest furnace. He was capable of building or fixing anything and was proud of the home he built for his family. Walt also enjoyed farming the land around his home. He loved being at home, playing cards or working a crossword or sudoku puzzle. Walt will be greatly missed by his family, his loving wife of 66 years, Doris E. Hannold; son, Matt (Dora) Hannold; grandchildren, Brian Hannold, Erin (Jeremy) Nelson, Emma Hannold, Tim (Jessica) Hannold, Jr., Samantha Hannold, Karen Armstrong, Sara Guinn, Edward Wolf, Amy (Chris Dube) Cyr and David Rosebrook; great-grandchildren, Noah and Adam, Maxwell and Logan, Isabella, Aleigh, Moses and Asher; daughter-in-law, Phyliss Hannold; and his dear sister, Ruth McFrederick. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two sons, Timothy A. Hannold, Sr. and Edwin “Captain Ed” Hannold; and his siblings, Betty Latva, Myron Hannold, Marian Hannold, Alfred Hannold and Richard Hannold. Calling hours will be held, Wednesday, November 10, 2021, from 5:00PM-7:00PM at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, where a funeral service will follow at 7PM, with Pastor Les Bolen, officiating. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 1:00PM at the Greenlawn Memory Gardens, where American Legion Cowle Post #151 will honor their departed comrade.
