Please share a memory of Wilma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Monroe Township - Surrounded by her family, Wilma J. Maurer, 89, passed peacefully on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Divine Living of Madison. She was born on September 17, 1933, in Monroe Township, the daughter of Glen and Irene (nee: Waid) Cole. Throughout her life, she labored with a humble, quiet joy, following the example of Jesus, her Savior. Wilma graduated from Conneaut High class of 1951, after which, she enjoyed proofreading for the News Herald, worked at Grants Store and was a well-known Avon sales representative. Active in the community, she was a member of the Birthday Club, Kelloggsville Heritage Committee, the “unofficial” neighborhood welcoming committee and the 55 Plus Club with their church family at Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene. But, it was being a wife, mother and grandmother, she treasured most. Wilma delighted in feeding family and friends around her table; serving all before seating herself. Desserts being her favorite to share, she decorated cakes, baked pies for new neighbors and always had food to offer those who came to her door. For the Kelloggsville Memorial Day Parade, she made hundreds of donuts and assisted the flower girls and their escorts. Devoted to her husband of 66 years, the two could often be found together working on cars or a variety of other projects. Wilma adored family gatherings; annual Labor Day campouts, camping trips at the Albion Fair, boating, bike rides and traveling all across the United States even as far as Alaska. Above all else, she cherished her family, and loved spending time with each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her adoring husband, Charles E. Maurer, whom she married on June 23, 1956 in the Wesleyan United Methodist Church; children, Gary (Tricia) Maurer, Ronald (Marcella) Maurer, and John (Nora) Maurer; daughter-in-law, Jo Ellen Park; grandchildren, Jamie (Robert) Read, Brittany (Erik) Haehn, Kevin (Morgan) Maurer, Kimberly (Josiah) Markley, Devon Maurer, Scott Maurer, and Samuel Maurer; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Eliana, Quinton, Nevaeh, and Ayla; siblings, twin brother, Wilson (Patricia) Cole, and Lois Detrick; and a sister-in-law, Leota Cole. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; son, Dale Maurer and brother Clarence “Coley” Cole.
