Eugene R. Funk, 93, of Conneaut passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

He was born May 17, 1929 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, the son of the late John Christopher and Dicie M. (Thomas) Funk. Eugene attended Beaver Center Schools. He married the love of his life, Thelma Heard on December 11, 1949.

Over the years Eugene was employed with Conrail for 20 years as a Boiler Maker/Blacksmith, as well as dedicating 17 years as a welder at the Bow Socket and retired from ICI America, where he was a chemical operator. He also owned and operated Funk’s TV repair for a number of years. Eugene and Thelma were members of the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ since 1952, he was also a longtime member of Conneaut Eagles and the American Legion Cowle Post #151. His family recalls his wonderful sense of humor, being outgoing and loved being around people; they also reminisced about his wonderful vegetable gardens and beautiful roses he grew. Eugene loved to go on cruises, traveling and visiting the West Coast and all along the Southern part of the United States. Above all else he loved his family, and lived for his grandchildren, whom he cherished dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Thelma Funk; daughters, Cheryl (James) Hess, Debra C. Funk, and Pamela (Dale) Andes; grandchildren, James (Kelli) Hess, Jr., Lindsay (Mark) Sylvester, Douglas (Andrea) Gustafson, Michael (Jessica) Gustafson, and Alyssa (Justin) Blood; great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Emmalyn, Oliver and Nora; and his wonderful neighbors, Steve and Alli Flack and Barry and Allie Gill.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matthew Hess; brothers, John Funk and Ted Brown; and his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at 1:00PM. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 11:00AM until the time of the service at 1:00PM, at the funeral home.
