Thelma D. Funk, 92, of Conneaut passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, May 8, 2023 and rejoins her husband, Eugene just three weeks after his passing.
Thelma was born on November 6, 1930 in Conneaut, Ohio to Ralph L. and Emma Belle (nee: Duchay) Heard. She graduated from Conneaut High School Class of 1948 and attended Kent State Ashtabula, at various times over the years. Thelma married the love of her life, Eugene Funk on December 11, 1949, and together they celebrated 73 wonderful years of marriage.
She was employed as an inspector for Rockwell Plastics for over 16 years as well as the Astatic Corporation. Eugene and Thelma were members of the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ since 1952. Thelma was a long time Pink Ladies volunteer with Brown Memorial Hospital. When the girls were growing up, she was a Brownies and Girl Scout Leader, she also enjoyed traveling, going tent camping or taking the trailer. Thelma loved to sew and enjoyed making clothes for her girls and family members. She was well known for her pies, especially Lemon Meringue pies, which were often substituted in lieu of birthday cakes. Above all else she loved her family, cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, dearly.
Thelma is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (James) Hess, Debra C. Funk, and Pamela (Dale) Andes; grandchildren, James (Kelli) Hess, III, Lindsay (Mark) Sylvester, Douglas (Andrea) Gustafson, Michael (Jessica) Gustafson, and Alyssa (Justin) Blood; and her great-grandchildren, Johnathan, Emmalyn, Oliver and Nora.
She was preceded in death by dear husband, Eugene on April 15, 2023; her grandson, Matthew Hess; siblings, Helen Norton, Marian Adams, Florence Henderson and Wilbur Heard; her parents; and beloved dog, Maggie.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 1:00PM at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with Rev. Joyce Shellhammer, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 11:00AM until the time of the service at 1:00PM, at the funeral home.
