Obituary of Alice Louise Headley
Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The family of Alice Louise (Campbell) Headley sadly announces her passing. Born in North Kingsville on Dec. 23, 1929, Alice died on Tuesday December 19, 2023, - just four days shy of her 94th birthday. She was in the care of Bella Care Hospice at Saybrook Landing Health and Rehabilitation, Ashtabula.
A lifelong native of Ashtabula County, Alice graduated from Kingsville High School in 1948 where she enjoyed playing clarinet in the school band and cheering for the basketball team. She later would be active in the Kingsville School Alumni organization.
Married in October of 1949 to the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Headley, Alice's responsibilities as homemaker included handling the family's finances. She was meticulous, thrifty, and more than once surprised Bob with resources for special projects. Crocheting was among her special interests, and Alice was pleased to present gifts of handmade baby apparel, afghans, and Christmas angels to family and friends.
As Mom, she will be remembered for her fun-loving nature. She hosted birthday parties with cousins, crafted Halloween costumes using burlap sacks, planned summer vacations, supported baseball leagues, and often ended her day by reading books aloud to her children at bedtime; all prized memories.
Alice's early ambition to become a nurse led to a service vocation outside the home, first at area restaurants then at Olson's Bakery in North Kingsville. She later worked in school cafeterias at Edgewood HS and Happy Hearts School; but serving in the Infant Stimulation program at Happy Hearts is where her early calling to serve was most proudly achieved.
Alice and Bob loved to travel, and in retirement they visited various locations in the continental USA, Hawaii, and Italy. They were affirmed by supporting the ministries of the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church. They loved their family and took great pride in knowing and supporting their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Alice and Bob's life story will be treasured, inspiring later generations as a model for resilience, family values, industry, endurance, and love.
Preceding Alice in death was her husband Bob, their infant daughter Phyllis Lee Headley, her parents, Clyde Heiliman and Mary Nora (Bancroft) Campbell, her siblings Doris (John) Rich, Richard (Lola Hart) Campbell, Leroy Campbell, her brother-in-law Charles (Rose) Headley, and many dear relatives and friends.
Alice is survived by her brother-in-law, Larry (Kathy) Headley, sister-in-law Ruth Ann (Leroy) Campbell, her children Thomas Robert (Wendy Jane Burkett) Headley of Bowling Green, OH, Ronald Leland (Shelia Williams) Headley of Jefferson, OH, and Wendy Lee Rutkowski (Joe) Topel, of Fairview PA.
Also surviving are grandchildren Matthew (Sara Pearce) Headley, Pemberville, OH, Drew (Jocelyn Williams) Headley, Bowling Green, OH, Jennifer Headley (Travis) Branstetter, Mansfield, OH, Jillian Headley (Ricky) Walters, Cortland, OH, Robert (Rob) Rutkowski, Erie PA, Bradley (Brad) Rutkowski, Erie, PA, Daniel Rutkowski, Fairview PA, Dan Topel and Anna Topel, Fairview PA; and great grandchildren Emarie Jane Headley, Ethan Matthew Headley, Rowan Cale Headley, Hazel Lynn Headley, Eva KayLeigh Walters, Foster Ellis Headley, Alaynna Jennifer Walters, and Juliette Irene Walters; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Alice's family is deeply appreciative to Bella Care Hospice and the professional staff of Saybrook Landing Health and Rehabilitation for her excellent care. A Memorial Service to celebrate the lives of Alice and Bob will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at North Kingsville Presbyterian Church, 6546 Church St., North Kingsville, Ohio 44068.
