Sheffield Twp. - Verlin O. "Fid" Lawrence, 91, went home to be with his Lord, on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 12, 1922, in Conneaut, Ohio the son of the late Eli V. and Emily J. (Reece) Lawrence and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated from Kingsville High School Class of 1942. After high school, Fid went on to serve his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1946. He married the love of his life Blanche M. Brady, in Conneaut, on July 1, 1950. Verlin worked for Inland Container for 32 years, and then retired from Premix after nine years. He was a former member of the Free Methodist Church in North Kingsville, where he served as a Superintendent, treasurer, and taught Sunday school. More recently he attended the Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene, where he was involved with the 55+ group. He enjoyed attending and participating in the various activities with the group at the church. Fid enjoyed the outdoors; working in the yard, camping, and traveling, but most of all he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Blanche; sons, Daniel (Rita) Lawrence of Rantoul, IL and Kevin (Karen) Lawrence of Kingsville; grandchildren, Danny (Karly) Lawrence, Adam (Nickie) Lawrence, and Tiffany and Trever Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Breanna, Chelsea, Joey, Lane, and Cali. Verlin was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Lucas; brothers, Orville, Adrian, Eli "Sylvan", Jesse "Earl", and Warren; sisters, Elsie, Mildred, Edith, Hilda, and his twin sister, Vida; and his parents. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM, at the Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene with, Pastor Les Bolen, officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Garden in North Kingsville, where military honors will be performed by the American Legion Cowle Post #151. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, and on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service at 11, at the church. Should friends desire, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Kelloggsville Church of the Nazarene, envelopes will be available.
