Obituary of John P. Wagner

Conneaut, Ohio- John P. Wagner, 89, former longtime resident of Vienna, Ohio and more recently of Conneaut, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at The Villa at the Lake.
John was born on August 20, 1925 the son of Charles and Violet (Greenwood) Wagner in Washington County, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Wagner was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran and served in Omaha Beach. He was a 35 year employee of Republic Steel in Warren and retired in 1985. John also served as Fire Chief for Carrollton, Pennsylvania Fire Department and volunteered with the Vienna Fire Department. He was a long time member of Vienna Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and as a deacon. John also devoted time to the Cortland Trinity Baptist Church and Old Time Baptist Church in Conneaut.
He was an avid outdoorsman, loved to fish, wood working and watching the birds at his bird feeders. John was also passionate about helping churches with their brick and mortar building projects.
Mr. Wagner is survived by his children, Cathy (Ted) Borck, of Monks Corner, SC, Marge (Paul) McCormack, of Winston Salem, NC, Robert Wagner of Butler, PA and David "Chip" (Elaine) Wagner of Conneaut; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Carolyn (Bradstock) Wagner in 1999; his parents; a brother, William Wagner; and a sister, Helen Todd.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday June 2, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Old Time Baptist Church , 809 Furnace Rd., Conneaut, Ohio, 44030, with Pastor Richard Elliot, officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 P.M. at Oakwood Cemetery in Sharon, Pennsylvania, where military honors will be performed. Calling hours will be held, Monday, June 1, 2015 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut.
